When the first Chinese immigrants moved to United States, they were mostly from Taishan (or Toishan). Therefore, most early Chinese translation of US Cities were based on their dialect. Many Chinatowns across the world have still retained the original Chinese names that were given to the cities. This is our nod to the original Chinese Americans.
